Depth, proofs and word-meanings behind each hadith card.

Hadith 18 — "Fear Allah wherever you are", deeper

  • Two halves: ḥuqūq Allāh (taqwā = murāqabah, watchfulness in private and public) + ḥuqūq al-ʿibād (good character). The chain has a minor discussion, but the meaning is fully corroborated by Qur'an and Sunnah.
  • taqwā = wiqāyah — a shield/helmet against Allah's anger; classically pictured as walking carefully on a thorn-strewn path (Ubayy ibn Kaʿb to ʿUmar). Its real test: are you the same alone as in a crowd?
  • "khāliqi-n-nāsa" — the word is an-nās (ALL people), not "the believers": good character is owed to everyone, against tribal partisanship (ʿaṣabiyyah).
  • Erasing a bad deed = tawbah + a good deed (two rakʿahs, ṣadaqah); sin is a black spot on the heart (83:14) that a good deed polishes. The woman who prayed and fasted but harmed neighbours "is in the Fire."

Hadith 19 — "Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you", deeper

  • "yā ghulām" opening — the Prophet ﷺ taught it to Ibn ʿAbbās as a boy riding behind him. "Guard Allah" = keep His limits and rulings (e.g. the boundaries of wuḍūʾ); "He guards you" in your self, family and wealth.
  • The fuller hadith tail (the lesson card truncates it): "know Allah in ease and He will know you in hardship… what missed you was never to befall you… victory comes with patience, relief with distress, and with hardship ease."
  • tawakkul (from wakīl): "حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ" (cf. 8:64); a person is only a means — "إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ" (1:5).
  • Qadar rests on two attributes — Allah's knowledge (ʿilm) and decree (qadar); the fruit is a contented, fearless heart. Means (precautions, protective adhkār against the evil eye) are taken; the outcome is His.

Hadith 20 — Ḥayāʾ (modesty), deeper

  • Two readings of "if you feel no shame, do as you wish": (1) if a deed is genuinely proper, do it openly; (2) the major reading — a warning (taḥdhīr): once shame is gone, nothing restrains a person from sin.
  • From "the earliest prophethood" → three categories of earlier-prophets' law: affirmed for us (fasting, 2:183), rejected/changed (the Jewish Sabbath fishing-ban), or merely reported with no ruling (Yūsuf's king's-measure reward).
  • Character is the mission: "إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُتَمِّمَ مَكَارِمَ الْأَخْلَاقِ" — I was sent to perfect noble character. Faith has "70-odd branches" (highest: lā ilāha illā-llāh; lowest: removing harm from the road) and ḥayāʾ is a branch.
  • True ḥayāʾ before Allah = guard the head and what it holds (eyes, ears, tongue) and the belly and what enters it; ʿUthmān's renowned modesty — "should I not feel shy before a man the angels are shy of?"

Hadith 21 — "Say I believe, then be steadfast", deeper

  • istiqāmah = the straight path — neither right nor left; the daily duʿāʾ for it is "اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ". The minimum is the five daily prayers with their sunan.
  • Qur'anic anchors: "فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ" (Hūd 11:112) — the verse that "made the Prophet ﷺ grey"; and "إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا" (Fuṣṣilat 41:30) — the angels descend with glad tidings of Paradise.
  • istiqāmah vs iltizām: iltizām = adhering to the rulings; istiqāmah is the fuller staying-straight, kept by constant muḥāsabah (self-accounting) against inḥirāf (deviation).

Hadith 22 — The obligations → Paradise, deeper

  • Īmān is verified in three: the heart (taṣdīq), the tongue (iqrār), and the limbs (deeds).
  • Hajj & zakāt are the two conditional duties: Hajj became obligatory late (yr 9/10 AH) and needs means and a safe road; zakāt needs the niṣāb — so they do not fall on everyone identically.
  • The reward of the lawful/unlawful clause comes from accepting the ḥarām as Allah's prohibition and avoiding it for His sake; the Companions' aspiration was Paradise itself, not the world.
📌 Hadith 23 ("purity is half of faith," Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī) has no deeper notes here — its lesson card carries the whole lesson.
